INTRODUCTIONThe Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS) is an international, non-profit, multidisciplinary organization for natural resource management professionals. Its mission is to advocate the protection, enhancement, and wise use of soil, water and related natural resources. Members come from government agencies, corporations, universities, consulting firms, nonprofit organizations, and special interest groups -- a diversity that promotes balance and credibility. The international headquarters of SWCS is in Ankeny, Iowa, USA. Activities at a local level are organized by chapters of the Society. For a membership form that you can print off and mail or FAX click on the red Join button on the SWCS.org home page. A nonprofit scientific and educational organization, SWCS is classified under the Internal Revenue Service regulations as a 501(c)(3) organization. Contributions are tax deductible. The U.S. is organized into eight regions. The Wyoming Chapter is a part of the Northern Plains Region. The Wyoming Chapter is organized into four Areas (see map below). Each Area has an Area Director which is an elected position. Go to the Officers page to see who the area directors are. ![]() HISTORYIn 1941, leaders of the soil conservation movement, including Hugh Hammond Bennett, the "Father of Soil Conservation," founded the Soil Conservation Society of America. In 1987, the organization was renamed the Soil and Water Conservation Society to better reflect the Society's interest in soil and water conservation and the organization's international membership and scope of activities. |
